I hope you’re pleased with yourself, Ailsa Chang!

I hope you’re happy with yourself, Ailsa Chang.

You and your little weasely Weezer friend Scott Cuomo have just ruined the next two or three or four days of my life.

There will be nothing creative or artistic or socially useful coming out of me for the next couple of days. No – I will spend every available moment listening to every song that Weezer has ever recorded.

I thought my life was just fine listening to “Island in the Sun” dozens of times – one of my all-time favorite songs and still, so far, my favorite Weezer song.

The people at Spotify apparently decided I just wouldn’t “get” Weezer’s music. Their tiny-brained little algorithm has never sent me a second Weezer song.

But your interview with Scott Cuomo was so adorable, so fun – and such a total collaboration. You two danced together for that whole interview – and the enchantment of those eight minutes made me decide I absolutely have to know Weezer from the inside out.

After – or maybe during – my Weezer binge, my second preoccupation will be what I can possibly do in the remainder of this brief, shining life of mine to get interviewed by Ailsa Chang. Perhaps I shall start a rock band – or go back to Harvard – or some shit like that.

And oh, how to make the sweet miss Ailsa laugh – like she did through that whole interview. Scott Cuomo made this look easy. If I could make Ailsa Chang laugh – even over a Zoom call, even if I am never in the same room with her….

These days all of my identities are converging: whether I am offering a blessing in the grocery store checkout line, offering a prayer in a poem or experiencing the kinship with all life while walking my or a client's dog - it's all the same. It's all Life.
